Martha Jane Douglas was born circa 1856 in Wayne County, GA. She is the daughter of Burrell Douglas Sr. and Mary Ann Strickland. She first appears on the 1860 Wayne County, GA census in father Burrell Douglas Sr.'s household. Also in the house is her mother Mary and her siblings, James, Nancy, William, Henry and Seaborn.
Next she is on the 1870 Ware County, GA census in her father Burrell Douglas Sr. house with her siblings William, Henry, Seaborn, Mary Ann and Burrell Jr. Also Nancy Carter and her son, William, are in the house too. While in Ware County, GA Martha Jane married Berrien A. (B.A.) Godwin in Ware County, GA on April 16, 1873 and their children were Mary Ann born circa 1877, Margaret born circa 1880, William Burrell born circa March 1882, Seaborn R. born June 1885, Berry A. born circa April 1890, Missouri born circa April 1892, Simon L. born circa February 1894, Dorthy born circa April 1896 and Joseph born circa June 1899.
Martha Jane is on the 1880 Ware County, GA census. Also the 1900 Branganzia, Ware County, GA census. Martha Jane Douglas died February 17, 1909 and is buried by her husband B. A. Godwin in the Mt. Plesent Cemetery in Ware County, GA.
