THE CONLEYS OF GEORGIA, USA

JOHN B. CONLEY THE IMMIGRANT

John B. Conley, some 8 years before his father's death, immigrated to America. The records shows that he left Cork County, Ireland on a ship named the "Clifton." He arrived in the harbor of New York, USA on May 18, 1840. The ship's passenger list has him at the age of 24. That would be right and the following October 22nd he would be 25  years old, putting him born in the year 1815. That is the year his baptism record said he was born. Also on board the "Clifton" were David and Mary Mahony, probably cousins, since his grandmother was Margaret Mahony.  Then the next record we find John on is the 1850 Camden County, GA census record. He was married by then and had a son named Charles. He married Elizabeth Melton. According to land records he owned land at the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, which was located in the 9th Land District, land lot #15. This land started out being in Camden County, GA then county lines changed and then it was in Charlton County, GA.  Then around the time of his death, circa 1870, the land was cut into Ware County, GA.

John B. Conley and Elizabeth Melton had these issues:
