My journey for family history started when I began hearing my father and mother talk about their family. It sparked my curiosity and I started my research, my journey. I have been doing family history for over 40 years. I know this certain family line can be traced back to Japheth the son of Noah then from Noah back to Adam in the Garden of Eden. It all started there, "And the Lord God formed man (Adam) of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7. This journey for all of us started from when God created Adam.

This family website is under construction continually. For reasons like correcting human error and finding new records and placing them with the right ancestor. Here on these pages you will see through the eyes of this family researcher. There will be things you will agree with, and there will be things you will disagree with. Sometimes it's just the way an individual interprets the record or story.

This site is to tell the story of the Douglas family of Scotland and how they came to America. You will see also the Douglas Clan and the Fleming Clan in this research. Both of these I believe are the same family. DNA finding should prove this fact. You will see this family in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, France, England, Scotland and America. In this research you will see the first Douglas in recorded history and his name is William de Douglas. "De Douglas" simply means he is from the area surrounding the small village called Douglas, Scotland and near the Douglas Waters in Lanarkshire, Scotland.  In this research you can see a Saxon King and Saxon Dukes and Counts from Ringelheim, Germany, which is in Lower Saxony. Also you will also see a Viking heritage in this family. Yes, Vikings that goes back to the Viking Kings from Norway and Denmark.  And later on some of these Vikings converted over to Christianity by baptism.

William de Douglas's father's name is Theobald le Fleming. The name Fleming means this family came from Flanders. Flanders actually stretched at one time from the top North right corner of France into  Northern Belgium. DNA finding of this researcher proves this fact. My DNA shows 51% of my DNA is from England and Northwestern Europe and 13% is from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, 15% Scotland, 14% Ireland and 7% Wales. The Northwestern Europe part is a place in the north right corner of France called Nord - Pas - de - Calais, France and a area in the Top left hand corner of Belgium. This area is where I find the Fleming Clan when they began to settle in Normandy, France, which is also called West Flanders. Flemings are people who came from Flanders and speak Flemish.

You will see when and where the "Fleming" or "le Fleming" name change to Douglas. Looks like 2 families but they are one family. As of right now this family website page shows both the Douglas and the Fleming families and their journey. The Douglas name comes from the Gaelic term "dubh-ghlas" which means "black waters" or "dark stream". It has been said "Men have seen the stream, but what eye ever beheld the source?" The Douglas family was one of the most powerful families in Scotland. For additional information biographical information, please visit the Georgia Douglases website at:
